Moving house can be an overwhelming and stressful experience, but with the right approach, it can also be an exciting new chapter in your life. Whether you're relocating across the road or to a different part of the country altogether, careful planning and organisation are key to ensuring a smooth transition.
To help you make the move a little easier, we have put together a list to guide you.

A good moving checklist should include:

The best opportunity anyone has during a move is to downsize their belongings beforehand. Why? Because you're already going through every single item during the packing process. Decluttering during a move also makes it easy to sort items by what you want to keep, donate or sell.

It's crucial you keep all of the documents necessary in one place and easily accessible. Don’t pack it away in a box, keep a file or folder with your important documents that you may need from now till you settle in your new place such as your LD, passport, birth certificates, medical documents etc

Moving can be one of the most stressful experiences, but one of the primary ways te alleviate this stress is to start as early as possible and not wait until the last second.

Get your boxes as early as possible and pack away items that are of occasional use that you wont be needing such as things stored in the garage and items in the top cupbcards etc.
Heavier items such as books, or crock ware should be packed in multiple, smaller boxes, so that these boxes are lighter to carry and can be moved with ease. Be sure to tape the bottom of the box vertically and horizontally multiple times with the tape extending to atleast quarter way upwards of the box, thus securing the box.

Purchase any other supplies you may need such as cling wrap, foam, bubble wrap, marker pens, tape, newspaper, fragile stickers etc. These items will ensure the safety of your items when you move.
lt is very important that if an item is fragile, and you have empty space in the corners of your box, you need to fill up the space with foam or just squashed up newspaper, so the items doesn’t move around and break during the move.

This one is important! You have get to label all your boxes in DETAIL. This will save you from confusion when you finally settle in your new place. You can easily move the boxes into the assigned rooms and will have no difficulty finding what you need. Write the room it needs to go to on the top of the box in bold and then list the items in the box.

As the weeks to moving day count down, pack away more and more until all that is left are the essentials — the items you touch every single day. Think about what's used the most, like the shower curtain, your bed linens, dishes and utensils, and maybe the most heavily used pots and pans. By saving your essentials for last, you can ensure what you need to move into your new home is packed away together and ready to unbox quickly upon arrival.

A great tip is to eat through your freezer and pantry. Plan your meals ahead, so you don't have to carry extra stuff that you can easily replace in your new home, especially if you are going long distance, you don’t want the food to spoil. Pack smaller plastic containers in larger ones. Use Newspaper to place glassware, especially in between plates. Fill empty spaces of boxes with squashed newspaper to avoid breakage. Box appliances well with bubble wrap and cardboard. Wrap knives in thick newspaper and tape. Pack away occasional use items early.

Add a piece of plastic in between the cap and bottle of liquid items and carefully pack to avoid spillage.

Clip wrap the mattress of your bed and base. A goed idea is to put your clothes in bin bags upright so they don’t get creased.

Bubble wrap your TV, add extra cushioning for the screen, maybe cover it with a blanket and then cardboard box it. Mark it with a Fragile sticker or sign. Make sure you have all your cords safely packed away.

Safely cling and package any liquids in the garage such as oil etc. Tools should boxed into smaller boxes as they are heavy and could cause the box te break when handling. Make sure your car is properly serviced before the move.

You can downsize your garden in advance, if there are larger plants but are big to take, you can propagate them so you have a version of them to grow in your new place. You can uproot your plants if they are in the ground the day before you are leaving and wrap them carefully in newspaper or plastic and put them in an open box.

Don’t abandon your pets, if for some reason you cannot take them along, please make arrangements for them to be rehomed. Speak to your vet about transporting them, they do have meds for them to calm them for long drives, you can get professional advice from them.

Go through your checklist. Avoid cooking hectic meals, opt for easy things or if you are able to, order out. Pack an overnight bag like you would if you were going to stay somewhere, this makes life super easy when you just move in, cause you would have all the essentials on hand rather than digging through the boxes when you arrive. lf you can, try to clean up the new place in advance, so you are ready te pack when you arrive.
